ELLA WARNICK
Ella is a student at the University of Utah, where she studies environmental sustainability and documentary filmmaking. She currently resides in Salt Lake City, but spends her free time chasing desert towers and slot canyons in southeast Utah. Ella hopes to preserve these unique places by sharing the stories of those who call them home. She believes character-driven documentaries are the best way to communicate environmental justice issues within the scope of land and resource management.
In her work, Ella explores the relationship between humans and wilderness. Her short film, The Long Fight, highlights Indigenous resistance to land destruction and resource contamination. Recognizing the weight these topics hold, Ella brings an empathic and intentional presence to every project. Her intimate, handheld style is aided by her keen attention to detail.
Ella spent her teenage years roaming the hills and hollers of southwest Virginia, where she first acknowledged her relationship with the natural world. This relationship eventually took her to the other side of the country, where she discovered new and beautiful wilderness in Utah, California, and Arizona during a much needed gap year. Once she had experienced the grandeur of the American West, she never looked back.
